What is Private pilot license?

Private Pilot license - is a basic, first step on the way to the big aviation and at the same time – all that is necessary for the one who wants to have the ability and the right to fly a single-engine airplane.

Private Pilot License (Airplane) allows a pilot to fly a single-engine airplane, weighting not more than 5500 kg., under visual flight rules (VFR) , meaning visibility of at least three miles, as well as at night. A private pilot may carry passengers but may not be paid for doing so (non-commercial activity), although the pilot can share operating expenses with the passengers.

Once you have earned a private license, you can work toward other certificates: a commercial certificate allows you to be paid for your flying, a flight instructor certificate enables you to teach others, and an airline transport certificate permits you to fly an airliner. You can also add various ratings that allow you pilot multi-engine airplanes, navigate using instruments in bad weather, and fly different aircraft like seaplanes, gliders, helicopters, and balloons.

But without the basic- PPL, You do not have the right to move forward to the above-mentioned.

Entry conditions

Everyone can entry the course for getting the private pilot license!

Age: You can get the license starting from the age of full 17, but learning can be started even earlier! There are no maximum age restrictions.

Medical commission: The obligatory entry condition is medical issue of health condition – category 1 or 2 ICAO (According to JAR-FCL 3 Medical).

It is possible to get the above-mentioned issue in following organizations in Latvia:

Learning

Learning in our school is based on Latvian CAA’s certified program of teaching the private pilots according to JAR-FCL part 1 (Airplane) Joint Aviation Requirements - Flight Crew Licensing (Airplane).

Classes takes place in new, specially equipped learning centre in Riga, 79a Slokas street, right close to the SPILVE aerodrome, in groups of 5-8 students, 3 hours 2-3 times a week, or individually - on agreement.

Usual length of learning process - 7 to 12 months.

In individual cases the minimal learning length is not restricted, maximal is 2 years (from beginning till the end of learning).

Learning course consists of theoretical and practical parts.

Theoretical part takes 153 hours (Theoretical learning course according to standards JAA-FCL -150 hours + Safety ..... – 3 hours), and on this stage You will learn the following subjects:

Practical teaching is being produced on airplanes Cessna F172N and Cessna 182 Skyline.

Necessary flight hours number – 45 (35- with instructor, 10-independent flights).
